Nano's going well
[info]darlingfreak
This week I've been kinda blah on my nano. I've been making word count, but mostly in sprints without much care to what I was writing... a lot of "words for words sake."

But today I it just kinda took off, and I'm feeling good about it. :) My characters are coming through and the story has hit hit a good streak.

And my word count is cute.

Friends Cut
[info]beanpop
I'm about to do a massive friends cut because my flist is cluttered with random people who haven't posted in months/years and that I never talk to.

If you want to stay on, comment here and let me know. Most of you who will read this won't get cut anyway but just to make sure.

I'm on my third load of laundry already, and it's a gorgeous day out. I hope to take advantage of this by being extremely-very-majorly productive today.

I started the day with a quick call to my bestie to tell her that I missed her. That always puts a smile on my face, too. And I could hear little Catherine in the background saying, "Mama! Mama! Mama!" Love that little girl, I do.

I did some more holiday shopping last night, and now I've got a dining room FULL of gifts that need to be wrapped and boxed for shipping. That's high on the agenda today, but I need to swing out to the store to get some shirt boxes first. I'm considering baking cookies while I'm wrapping, too.

I'm paying bills right now (well, I was... then I stopped to make an entry, that is), and I'll be heading out in just a moment. I am excited and happy for this big, beautiful day!

OH MY GOD, I HAVE FOUND THE BEST PICTURE EVAH!

It's going to be made into my next icon, TRUFAX!

Sorry if I potentially offended anyone with it, but I think it's adorable and I'm all for the over 'hit over the head with the moe=hammer Hitler'. I in no way support what Hitler did, but I would not be Nia without all of the random hitler jokes that I toss at everyone. (Which is probably why I enjoyed "The Producers" so much)

Movies: 2012
[info]vorpal
Who here plans to see the movie 2012 when it comes out?

Honestly, having seen a metric buttload of movies this year, I can honestly say that it seems like it's going to easily take the title of Most Retarded Movie of 2009, stealing it cleanly from Knowing, or possibly this year's Final Destination movie (which is the only movie I almost walked out of in probably over 60 movies I've seen, which I only attended because I was interested in going to a more "adult" 3D movie).

Frankly, there is nothing I detest more when it comes to movies than action flicks and endless mindless violence / destruction. (This is why, despite the fact that it had many good ideas, I had a really hard time fully enjoying District 9). The previews for 2012 have made me roll my eyes so much that I fear I might simultaneously sprain them both. I would rather watch a fruit fly live its entire life and die than go see it.

In other news, my favourite movie of the year? Easily Coraline. Loved, loved it. Only movie I liked enough to repeat more than once: I went three times.

Your Own Private Ida Alert Weekend!
[info]cieldumort wrote in [info]twc_aficionados
Not since the B52s were spinning out a single by a similar name has there been such commotion during the month of November. It just goes to show we truly live on a wild planet! Ok, maybe I injected a wee bit of hyperbole there, but the name necessitated ;-)

On a more serious note, Ida is now back over water - and rapidly regaining deep convection and internal organization. While the most agressive models have backed off a bit from their earlier calls for a rare - practically unheard of - November Category Four Major Hurricane, Ida's trends now seem to me to be following closer along with those aggressive model outputs than the slower, further west, and far less intense forecasts of other model runs.

Get ready for maybe more than just a little bit of rain and wind, Cancun, Havana & Lakeland, Florida!

the one with a minor update
[info]pixienamedkatie
I keep forgeting to update this lj. Although, I keep forgetting what day it is so perhaps this is a larger problem that just keeping the lj updated. Anyway.

It is almost Things Are Due time. As in, on Monday and Wednesday (and the following Monday). If my life was a film, there would be constant tension music playing right now.

I REALLY FREAKING want to graduate with my average over 80% so that I get a PhD scholarship. But I'm worried it's not going to happen, because what if the world just hates me? What if I'm too stupid to write a decent enough thesis? What if I'm too rubbish to do my coursework properly? What if what if what if. (For the record, with the exception of one course, my grades so far have been 83% and above but that doesn't stop me worrying).

This video is a hoot!
[info]the_questess
It features a bunch of kids being interviewed in Argentina about midwives and birth. Some of the stuff they say is hilarious (and you go, a KID knows THAT?!?!). Even if you're not a birth-type person, you should watch this just for the laugh factor! (And, it's totally SFW SF-men, etc.)

Free small slurpee tomorrow!
[info]riumplus
(I know I haven't updated in a while and still have to finish my trip log; I'll get to it soon. Honest! Until then, check my deviantART gallery. I'm uploading one photo from my trip a day. See how long I can keep it up without missing a day!)

I heard from a friend that if you go to a 7-Eleven tomorrow (Saturday) and say "Happy 7-eleven day" You get a free small slurpee. It's listed on the slurpee website and there's a Facebook group so I'm saying it's legit. Here's a list of all QLD 7-Eleven stores & their addresses. :D

A holiday update.
[info]navygreen
Jack and I headed out this evening to begin our holiday shopping. We worked very hard for over two hours, and we made a lot of progress! I'm now happy to report that gifts have been purchased for six special people. That means we only have, let's see... um... six just-as-special people left to buy for. We're halfway done - YAY!

At the very end of our shopping, we passed a makeup section, and Jack was all, "OOOOOooooooh!" He wanted to show me the LipSmackers that his teacher sometimes uses, and he was super stoked to find a Dr. Pepper flavor one. I let him have the 85c chapstick for being such a big help to me in picking out gifts, and he is over the moon tonight about his flavored lips. What a funny guy!

As we were piling purchases into the car, I scouted the parking lot for a cart return. I spotted one, but it was a few aisles over. After emptying out the cart, I let Jack return it, but I warned him to walk slowly and look for traffic constantly. I then started the car and crept alongside him. He did exactly as I asked, being very vigilant in looking for cars, and then he politely pushed the cart all the way inside the return, as the beginning of the next neat row. He then hopped inside the car with me, and I navigated the rest of the parking lot.

"Why were you looking at me with that funny look out the window, Mom?" he asked.

"Hmm?" I questioned. "What are you talking about, bud?"

"You were watching me real close with a kinda smile on. Did you think I couldn't do it by myself?"

I sighed a mother's sigh. "No, sweetie. I knew you could do it. I just look at you sometimes, and I can't believe you are as big as you are, and that you can do all the things you now can. You are just growing up so very fast, you know?"

"I know, Mom," he said knowingly, nodding in the rearview mirror. Then he smiled that loopy smile of his, and he gazed out the window into the clear night.
